Yeah, years are arbitrary measures, but what isn't.

Some things I thought were good in 2005:
  • Deerhoof, The Runners Four
  • the Fiery Furnaces at Lee's Palace, October 9
  • Gus Van Sant, Last Days
  • Werner Herzog, Grizzly Man
  • the BGL show at Mercer Union
  • Tolling Elves
  • Rachel Zolf, Human Resources
  • Rob Read, 18 Full English Breakfasts and O Spam, Poams (together)
  • Betsy Warland's reading at the Mercury launch
  • Alexei Ponikarovsky

i've always suspected Read to be one of those big, physical writers that shows all sorts of skills in practise but only displays flashes of brilliance in actual books.

it was good to see him abandon his up-and-down-the-wing writing style and drive to the net more with breakfasts and spam poams.

kudos on his breakout year as one of toronto's most reliable two-way poets.

Sadly, I'm clueless about all except Ponikarovsky who, I agree, was good in 2005.
