Today's truism after an evening discussing the politics of poetry: It's the privilage of the powerful to be deluded into thinking they are avoiding politics.

In other news: Collectives. What are they? Would you join one?

I know I am not in TO - but I long to join a collective. It would be great to involve people from all throughout Canada perhaps.

Jordan: I wonder what the difference is between a collective and a community. Is it the declaration? the naming? Is the shape different as a result?

Angela: Negotiations are ongoing under a media blackout. The deadline has been extended to Tuesday at midnight. More news soon.

I think the difference may be in the naming of it - perhaps with some kind of overall agenda like the KSW? Perhaps we can see a collective as way to bolster an already existing community - through meetings, more frequent discussions?

also, Angela I wonder what kind of 'pet' i would be...?

Okay, I like the open bars and cake. When Jay proposed the idea (which he's now done on his blog too), I was into it for the most part. I do have a nagging doubt though. I suppose there'd have to be a constant effort to guard against, I don't know, coercive power dynamics?

Though I haven't had a chance to read it all, this looks interesting.

Ahem, yeah, and of course there'd have to be some kind of advantage over being just a loose-knit bunch of poets. I guess this would tie in with the idea of an agenda. Maybe it would be better for any further discussion to happen over at Jay's. It's his idea after all.
